End of the 7th Edition of the BDMA Master + Transition to DEAI

Oct 22, 2025

Last September the 7th edition of BDMA reached its conclusion. This is the second-to-last promotion of this Erasmus Mundus Master, which next year will transition to the DEAI (Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence) program.

On September 11–12, the students of the Big Data Management and Analytics (BDMA) Erasmus Mundus program successfully defended their master’s theses, marking the conclusion of the 7th  edition of the program. This milestone celebrates yet another successful group of eager students trained to lead the future in the field of data science.

The BDMA program is a joint initiative led by UPC (represented by the DTIM group), in collaboration with top academic institutions across Europe:

- Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium

- Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e), Netherlands

- CentraleSupélec, France

- University of Padua, Italy

Over the years, BDMA has established itself as a leading international master’s program, consistently delivering high-quality education and research excellence in big data.

The initiative started in 2012 as IT4BI (Information Technology for Business Intelligence), before transitioning to BDMA in 2017. This edition marks the second-to-last cohort under the BDMA program structure, which will finish with the 2024-2026 promotion after 9 years. Building on its strong foundations, the consortium is now launching a new and enhanced master’s program: DEAI – Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. This next-generation program will integrate the latest advancements in AI and data management.
